Latitude & Longitude Lesson
Lesson Objective: Accurately draw latitude & longitude on a satellite image of Lincoln, using a teacher-generated example to develop a tool for use in a treasure hunt.
Here's an example of a completed map students will use for their "geocaching" activity.
2-day lesson
Summary
Day 1: familiarize students with lat/long; compare lat/long to a students address (e.g. a pizza delivery person needs an address). Lat/long is like an address; helps to find the location of people.
Day 2: Using the map with lat/long, hide pencils on campus; students may trade pencils they've found with prizes.
Presentation on latitude and longitude is here.
